_____1.* Learn the names of the Five Books of the Torah and (Level 2 and above) the 54 parshiyot (individual sections read weekly.)

 

_____ 2.* Read or hear the parsha for two weeks (Preschool and Level 1 may read or have read to them abridged versions.) Tell some else what the parsha said.

 

_____ 3. Who was Moses? Learn about his life and the events that led up to his receiving the Torah.

 

_____ 4. Make a time line of the events in the Torah.

 

_____ 5. Earn the Hebrew Language badge at your level

 

_____ 6. Earn the Ten Commandments badge at your level.

 

_____ 7. Learn about the some of the people in the Torah (Adam, Eve, Noah, Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, Sarah, Rebecca, Rachel, Leah, Joseph, Judah, Tamar, Miriam, Aaron, Zipporah, Jethro, Pinchas, Eliezer, the five daughters of Zelophehad)  Preschool and Level 1 should learn about at least three, Level 2, 3, 4 & 5 should learn about at least five.

 

_____ 8. Write a d’var Torah (discussion of the parsha and its relevance to our lives) for at least one parsha you read.

 

_____ 9. Who was Rashi? Learn about his life and read some of his commentaries on your parshiyot. You may also learn Rashi script.

 

_____ 10. Read the haftarah for at least one of your parshiyot. Discuss how the haftarah relates to the parsha

 

_____ 11. What is halacha? Find specific mitzvos (commandments) in the parshiyot you are reading. Which mitzvos are between man and G-d (bein adam l’makom) and which are between man and man (bein adam l’chaveiro)

 

_____ 12. Visit a sofer (scribe) to see how a Torah scroll is written. You may also attend a hachnossos sefer Torah (dedication of a new Torah scroll) if there is one in your area.
