Preschool:  Do three requirements including the two starred *

__1.* Know what the Salem Witch Trials were.

Level 1: Do four requirements including the two starred *

__1. *  Do Preschool requirements 1 & 2.

__2.* Read about people involved in the Salem Witch Trials.

Level 2: Do five requirements including the two starred *

__1.* Do Level 1 requirements 1 & 2. Know when and where the Salem Witch Trials took place. Know who the first person accused was, who accused her and why.

__2. * Create a timeline of 10 events leading up to and during the Salem Witch Trials.

Level 3: Do six requirements including the two starred *

__1.* Do Level 2 requirements 1 & 2. Be able to locate Salem on a map. Have 15 items on your timeline.

__2.* Learn about different theories about what caused the Salem Witch Trials. Which do you think best explains it?

Level 4: Do seven requirements including the two starred * Have 20 items on your timeline.

__1.* Do Level 3 requirements 1 & 2.

__2.* Learn about different tests that were used to prove someone was a witch. Do you think these tests were fair?

Level 5: Do nine requirements including the two starred. *

__1.* Do Level 5 requirements 1 & 2.

__2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

 

Optional Requirements:

__3. Visit Salem, Massachusetts and visit sites relating to the Witch Trials. If you cannot visit in person, use the internet to take a virtual field trip.

 

__4. Learn about other witch trials/witch hunts in history and other countries.

 

__5. Read a book or watch a movie about the Salem Witch Trials.

 

__6. Hold a mock witch trial with your troop. You can find actual transcripts from the trials online.

 

__7. Look at real life court sketches. Make one of what you think the trials looked like.

 

__8.Learn who the Puritans were.

 

__9. Make a map of the American colonies during the Salem Witch Trials.

 

__10. Write a report on how you think you would react if you were accused of witchcraft. Would you confess to avoid punishment or stand your ground and tell the truth? Compare the consequences of both options.

 

__11. Create a newspaper article about the Salem Witch Trials. If doing this requirement as a Troop girls could each contribute an article about the Trials and life in Colonial America to create a newspaper together.

 

__12. Create a map of the Trials. Include the homes of accusers and accused, where trials took place, and where prisoners were kept.
