Preschool: Do three requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Sample and identify at least 2 different types of pears.

_____ 2.* Learn the life cycle of an pear (seed, seedling, tree, flower, fruit, seed....)

Level 1: Do four requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Preschool requirements 1 & 2. Sample and identify at least 3 different types of pear.
_____ 2.* Learn how to clean your produce properly. Tell what the difference is between organic and non-organic pears.

Level 2: Do five requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Level 1 requirements 1 & 2. Sample and identify at least 4 different types of pears.
_____ 2.* Find out where apples are typically grown and in what season. Locate major pear growing regions on a map. Do they specialize in a particular type of pear, or all pears in general?

Level 3: Do six requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Level 2 requirements 1 & 2. Sample and identify at least 5 different types of pears.
_____ 2.* Find out what types of vitamins and minerals are in pears. How many grams of fiber does a typical pear have? What health benefits do these provide your body?

Level 4: Do seven requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Level 3 requirements 1 & 2. Sample and identify at least 6 different types of pears.
_____ 2.* Make at least 3 recipes using pears. If you choose to use optional requirements that involve recipes, these must be done in addition to the three mentioned in this requirement.

Level 5: Do nine requirements including the two starred *
_____ 1.* Do Level 4 requirements 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.

Optional Requirements:
_____ 3. Harvest pears from a tree: Preschool 10 pears, Level 1 - ½ bushel, Level 2 -  1 bushel, Level 3 -  2 bushels, Level s 4 & 5 -Assist in harvesting from a whole tree
_____ 4. Why is it important to pick bad fruit, and not allow fruit that has fallen to remain under the tree? What good does it do to maintain cleanliness around your pear trees?
_____5. What are some issues that could ruin a pear harvest for a year? What could destroy an entire tree? (molds, blight, hail, etc…)
_____ 6. Seeds are distributed by plants in different ways. A pear tree distributes its seed through fruit. Why would a plant produce fruit around its seeds?
_____ 7. Make a pear craft such as pear prints, pear candle holders, or similar.
_____8. Participate in a community service project that has something to do with pears. Examples might include donate pears or pear recipe items to a shelter, shut ins, food bank, etc., or holding an pear bake sale or craft sale to donate money to a local charity.
_____ 9. Find out what careers involve pears - examples might include: Farmer, Produce Manager, Fruit Stand Owner, or Chef. What education is needed for this job? What type of pay could you expect? What type of hours might you need to work? Where might you need to live?
_____ 10. Visit your county fair and see what pear items were entered. How is the judging conducted? Enter an pear recipe or project yourself if you can.
_____ 11. Can you find ancient myths involving pears? What were their importance?
_____ 12. Teach younger children something about pear.
_____ 13. Dehydrate pear. Try different recipes such as dipping the pear in maple syrup first, or in cinnamon and sugar. Or make fruit leather with pear
_____ 14. Make a hot pear recipe such as poached pears, pear muffins, pear butter, or pear tart.
_____ 15. Make a cold pear recipe such as pear sauce, fruit salad, or pears with peanut butter.

_____ 16. Make a savory pear recipe-Bacon wrapped pear, ricotta stuffed pear salad, etc..
_____ 17. Find out how to keep a pear from turning brown. Why does it work? What makes the pear turn brown in the first place?
_____ 18. Find out about pear world records, such as the heaviest pear.
