Penguin: Do three requirements including the two starred and one optional.
_____ 1 * Be able to recognize pictures of at least three National Landmarks
_____ 2.* Understand why national monuments and landmarks are important.
Otter: Do four requirements including the two starred and two optional.
_____ 1.* Do Penguin requirements 1 & 2. Be able to recognize 5 National Landmarks. Find at least one National Landmark in each region of the United States: North Atlantic,Mid Atlantic, National Capital, Southeast, Midwest, Southwest,Rocky Mountain,Western, Pacific Northwest and Alaska.
_____ 2. * Make a craft or other art piece featuring a national landmark.
Dolphin: Do five requirements including the two starred and three optional.
_____ 1.* .Do Otter requirements 1 & 2. Be able to recognize 8 national landmarks.
_____ 2.* Make a map of where each of the national landmarks you have learned about are located.
Butterfly: Do six requirements including the two starred and four optional.
_____ 1.* Do Dolphin requirements 1 & 2. Be able to recognize 10 national landmarks.
_____ 2.* Learn the history of at least three national landmarks along with any interesting facts you can find. For example, the Lincoln Monument was designed by a deaf man, Lincoln's hands rest in the position of the American Sign Langauge alphabet letters of A and L.
Eagle: Do seven requirements including the two starred and five optional.
_____ 1.* Do Butterfly requirements 1 & 2.
_____ 2.* Make a list of as many national landmarks as you can find (make sure to mark them all on your map). How many are manmade and how many are natural? What is the difference between the two as far as the importance to our country?
_____ 3. Visit a national monument or landmark in person, or online with permission from a parent.
_____ 4. Earn a Junior Ranger badge for any national monument.
_____ 5. Find at least 5 books or movies that feature a national landmark.
_____ 6. Watch a documentary about a national landmark.
_____ 7. Design a poster or brochure, or write a brief report about one of our national landmarks.
_____ 8. Which of our national landmarks are in danger of being damaged or destroyed? Why? What is being done to save them?
_____ 9. Participate in a service project that benefits one of our national landmarks or educated people about it.
_____ 10. Read a book or magazine about your national landmark.
_____ 11. Pick a national landmark and plan a dream trip to visit it. What would you want to see and do while you are there? How would you get there? Where would you stay? How much would it cost? (younger girls can plan in general terms while older girls should do some actual travel research.)
_____12. If you were to visit the national landmark in person, are there areas that are not open to the public? What are they? Why are they restricted? Does the landmark have an entrance fee to visit it? If so, how much?
