NOTE: This badge can be used to earn multiple individual badges. You can earn a culture badge for any country in the world.
Preschool: Do three requirements including the two starred *
_____1.* Find your country on a map. What continent is it on? What is the capital city? What countries border it?
_____2.* Look at a picture of the flag of your country.
Level 1: Do four requirements including the two starred *
_____1.* Do Preschool requirements 1 & 2.
_____2.* Sample foods from the country. Learn what its citizens eat for meals and snacks. Is it similar or different from what you might eat?
Level 2: Do five requirements including the two starred *
_____1.* Do Level 1 requirements 1 & 2.
_____2.* Learn ten words in the language spoken in your chosen country. Be able to introduce yourself in that language.
Level 3: Do six requirements including the two starred *
_____1.* Do Level 2 requirements 1 & 2.
_____2.* Find out what type of alphabet they use in your selected country. Is it familiar to yours or different? If similar, are some letters pronounced differently? Write the entire alphabet.
Level 4: Do seven requirements including the two starred *
_____1.* Do Level 3 requirements 1 & 2.
_____2.* Look at the money from your selected country. What is it called? Who are the people and what are the symbols on it? Find out the exchange rate and see how much it would take to buy something in that country. Price out ten different items and compare them to how much they would cost in your country.
Level 5: Do nine requirements including the two starred *
_____1.* Do Level 4 requirements 1 & 2.
_____2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.
Optional Requirements:
_____3. Try on or research outfits from your chosen country. Learn when these are worn. Are they everyday clothes or ceremonial?
_____4. Learn a traditional craft from your country.
_____5. Learn a children’s song, nursery rhyme or traditional song from your country. Learn its significance.
_____6. Read a story from your country (in English is fine). What similarities and differences do you see compared to your life? Listen to the words and also look at the pictures.
_____7. What is the most common mode of transportation in your country?
_____8. Learn about the climate in your chosen country. What affects the climate?
_____9. What are common toys and games for children in your country? Do you think it would be fun to play with those? Why or why not? If possible, try to play one of them.
_____10. Interview someone from the country. Write down what you learned from them.
_____11. Make a poster advertising travel to this country highlighting some of the more famous things to do there.
_____12. Cook a dish from your country and serve it to your family or troop.
_____13. Learn some of the history of your selected country and make a timeline with ten important events.
_____14. Choose an important historical figure from your country and read their biography or watch a documentary on them.
