Art in Nature

Preschool: Do the 2 starred requirements below plus one optional requirement.
_____1.* Go outside and create a piece of artwork from what you see. You might draw a tree or flower, sculpt an animal, paint a rainbow or photograph a bug.
_____2.* Create a piece of art using something you find in nature. Make sure to follow no trace rules if you are on public land.
Level 1: Do the 2 starred requirements below plus two optional requirements.
_____ 1.* Do Preschool requirements 1 & 2
_____ 2* Create a mosaic using small sticks, rocks, fallen leaves, acorns or other small items from nature you find on the ground. Glue them onto cardboard or simply layout your design in the dirt or grass if you are on public land and need to leave no trace when you leave.
Level 2:Do the 2 starred requirements below plus three optional requirements.
_____ 1.* Do Level 1 requirements 1&2
_____ 2.* Go out in nature and draw, paint or photograph the natural landscape you see. This might be a view of a waterfall, the mountains, a river, or a forest. Pay attention to artistic details such as lighting and composition.
Level 3: Do the 2 starred requirements below plus four optional requirements.
_____ 1.* Do Level 2 requirements 1 & 2
_____ 2.* Learn about the benefits of spending time in nature. How does creating art in nature improve your health?
Level 4: Do the 2 starred requirements below plus five optional requirements.
_____ 1.* Do Level 3 requirements 1 & 2
_____ 2.* Learn what Ephemeral Art is and create a piece outdoors in nature.
Level 5: Do the 2 starred requirements below plus six optional requirements.
_____1.* Do Level 4 requirements 1 & 2.
_____2.* Teach someone how to do a skill from this badge or teach some knowledge about this badge to someone. You can teach kids, your spouse, seniors, anyone, just as long as you are sharing your new found knowledge. If for some reason you cannot teach what you have learned to someone else, you may choose an additional 2 optional requirements instead.
Optional Requirements:
_____ 3. Make a piece of jewelry or other accessory out of something you find in nature.
_____ 4. Make a fairy house or fairy garden
_____ 5. Learn about careers that involve art in nature. Examples might be a wildlife photographer, a landscape artist, a woodworker, etc. Find out how to train for one of these careers, what the average pay is and where jobs may be found.
_____ 6. Create a piece of sand art such as a sand castle or sand drawing
_____ 7. Create some leaf animals such as these.
_____ 8. Paint a rock
_____ 9. Learn to make a God’s Eye from sticks you find on the ground.
_____ 10. Learn what macro photography is and find a book or website to view with professional macro photography of nature. How does this type of photography capture nature in a way we don’t normally see?
_____ 11. Create an animal sculpture out of rocks and seashells.
_____ 12. Press flowers or leaves and use to create cards or bookmarks
_____ 13. Participate in a service project that involves nature in art. This could be anything from creating and selling craft items to raise money for your favorite charity to providing a free kids craft activity at a local fair or event.
_____ 14. Make prints using leaves and other natural items by dipping them in paint or ink and then pressing to paper.
_____ 15. Create “water shadows” by laying out various leaves and sticks on the sidewalk or in the dirt and then spraying the area with a spritz bottle. Remove the items to see the design the “shadows” made.
_____ 16. Make leaf or flower rubbings with crayons.
_____ 17. Simulate nature fall leaves by making wax paper and crayon leaves.
